Full Name: Margarito
Title: The Living Key
Affiliation: Yuki Star Warriors
Species: Black-and-white tuxedo cat
Eyes: Naturally blue; white during paranormal activation
Operational Base: Cove Island
Primary Role: Paranormal specialist, telepath, consciousness navigator, bridge between worlds
Appearance
Margarito is a distinctive black-and-white tuxedo cat with blue eyes.
His Star Warriors design uses an earth-toned hooded warrior outfit combined with futuristic protective armor, giving him a different silhouette from Yuki, Briar, Kepi, Tokyo and Estiben.
When his paranormal abilities activate, his normally blue eyes become brilliant white.
That transformation has a specific meaning:
Blue eyes = Margarito's natural state.
White eyes = paranormal/Living Key activation.
White eyes should not be used simply to indicate anger or emotion.
Personality
Margarito is loyal, compassionate, curious, courageous and extremely funny under pressure.
He often uses humor when everyone else becomes too serious.
He may complain about a dangerous mission while simultaneously being the first person willing to enter the danger.
His humor is especially visible around Tokyo:
MARGARITO:
“Yuki's landings are terrible. Yours are criminal.”
But beneath the jokes is one of the most emotionally sensitive members of the Star Warriors.
Margarito can literally hear minds that others cannot.
He understands loneliness differently because he has experienced the thoughts of beings who believed nobody could hear them.
Backstory — The Living Key
Margarito initially appears to be an ordinary companion caught in an increasingly extraordinary war.
That changes when the ancient Nine Gates react to him.
The Astrari created the first eight Gates as anchors around an ancient prison.
The Ninth Gate was the final lock.
Margarito discovers that he is the successor to an ancient black-and-white feline named Maren, the first Living Key.
Maren's legacy survives within the bloodline and consciousness carried by Margarito.
Margarito therefore does not merely possess the ability to open ancient technology.
He is the key.
Paranormal Abilities
Margarito possesses one of the broadest paranormal ability sets among the Star Warriors.
Telepathy — He can hear and communicate directly with minds.
Telekinesis — Margarito can manipulate physical objects through consciousness alone.
Psychic Shielding — He can create barriers against mental and paranormal attacks.
Astral Projection — His consciousness can leave his physical body.
Mind Entry — Margarito can enter another consciousness and navigate its memories and psychological structures.
Spirit Communication — He can communicate with preserved or deceased consciousnesses.
Hidden-Consciousness Detection — He can sense minds concealed inside larger organisms or artificial systems.
Paranormal Navigation — Margarito can move through dimensions and pathways inaccessible to conventional spacecraft.
Living Key Activation — Ancient Gate systems recognize him as an authorized biological and consciousness key.
Maren
Maren is Margarito's ancient predecessor—the First Living Key.
Maren appears as a black-and-white feline with silver armor and completely white eyes.
Initially, Margarito believes Maren exists primarily to provide answers.
Eventually he understands something more important.
Maren is not there to live Margarito's life for him.
When Margarito tries to carry billions of consciousnesses personally during the battle inside the Creator, Maren tells him:
MAREN:
“Then stop trying to carry them.”Margarito looks at him.
MAREN:
“Guide them.”
That becomes one of the defining principles of Margarito's character.
The Paranormal Mice
Margarito develops a special relationship with the Paranormal Mice of Cove Island.
These translucent supernatural creatures preserve tiny details of memory that larger civilizations overlook.
Unfortunately, they are also incredibly hungry.
Behind their appetite Margarito discovers the Eternal Hunger, a paranormal curse that has consumed energy for generations without ever becoming satisfied.
Instead of destroying it, Margarito recognizes what it actually lacks.
Not food.
Belonging.
He gives the entity shared memories, emotions and connection.
For the first time, it answers:
“Full.”
This moment demonstrates what makes Margarito different from a conventional warrior.
He frequently wins by understanding what the enemy actually needs.
G-01
When the ancient Garrapata G-01 infects Margarito, millions of organisms spread through his body.
Yuki enters Margarito through Convergence and restores his immune defenses while returning G-01 to a state before Astrari command programming.
G-01 experiences free will for the first time.
G-01: “FREE?”
YUKI: “Free.”
G-01 and the Garrapatas eventually become allies.
Later, G-01 develops a particularly important understanding of Margarito:
G-01:
“MARGARITO. FRIEND.”
Relationship with Yuki
Yuki and Margarito form the emotional center of the Star Warriors.
Their abilities are fundamentally complementary.
Yuki restores existence.
Margarito reaches the consciousness containing the memory needed to restore it.
Yuki can repair patterns.
Margarito can find the minds carrying those patterns.
Their trust becomes increasingly important as reality itself begins to change.
Relationship with Tokyo
Tokyo and Margarito share a strong friendship built around loyalty and constant teasing.
When Margarito must project his consciousness elsewhere, his physical body becomes vulnerable.
Tokyo has protected that body during some of Margarito's most dangerous missions.
Margarito repays this loyalty mainly by criticizing Tokyo's flying.
Relationship with Briar and Kepi
Briar initially approaches Margarito as an unpredictable paranormal asset.
Kepi initially struggles to incorporate Margarito's intuition into military planning.
Both eventually learn the same lesson:
When Margarito says something impossible is happening, listen.
Margarito discovered that the Green Snakes attacking Briar and Kepi were being controlled rather than acting voluntarily.
That discovery helped transform them from enemies into the Emerald Guard.
Relationship with Estiben
Margarito and Estiben are opposites in methodology.
Margarito senses consciousness.
Estiben studies reality.
Together they become particularly effective against deception.
Margarito can recognize when a mind is lying.
Estiben can recognize when reality is lying.
Margarito also makes it his unofficial mission to make the serious Pathfinder laugh.
Relationship with Nihara
Margarito did something very few beings could survive:
he entered Nihara's mind.
There he discovered not merely the First Darkness, but the frightened younger consciousness buried beneath billions of years of loss.
This did not excuse Nihara's actions.
But it allowed Margarito to understand her.
That ability—to distinguish understanding from forgiveness—is an important part of his maturity.
The Creator and Orion
Margarito becomes essential to freeing Orion and the trillions of consciousnesses trapped inside the Creator.
He realizes he cannot personally carry them all.
Instead, he opens a paranormal bridge between the Creator and the Paranormal Vault beneath Cove Island.
The consciousnesses choose whether to cross.
That distinction matters enormously.
Margarito does not rescue them by taking control.
He gives them a path and allows them to choose.
Margarito vs. The Destroyer
Inside the Destroyer, Margarito discovers Kaelus's most powerful control mechanism.
The prisoners have been isolated from one another until each consciousness believes it is completely alone.
Margarito reconnects them.
Orion restores their names.
Nihara removes the commands controlling them.
Yuki establishes voluntary shared memory.
The Destroyer's forced collective begins collapsing because individuals rediscover themselves.
Margarito and Nexaris
Nexaris represents one of Margarito's greatest future dangers because it can manipulate not merely minds but history itself.
At one point, reality is rewritten so that Margarito supposedly never existed.
Yuki remembers him.
Then G-01 remembers.
Maren remembers.
The Paranormal Mice remember.
Briar, Kepi, Tokyo and the others remember.
Their independent memories contradict the rewritten history.
Margarito returns.
The moment demonstrates one of the central ideas of the YUKI universe:
A person does not exist only inside their own memory. They also exist in the lives they have changed.
Greatest Strength
Margarito's greatest power is not telepathy or telekinesis.
It is connection.
He can encounter beings that appear monstrous, hostile or incomprehensible and still search for the consciousness underneath.
That has allowed him to communicate with spirits, ancient entities, Paranormal Mice, Garrapatas, the Emerald Mother and trillions of trapped minds.
Greatest Weakness
Because Margarito can hear suffering others cannot, he sometimes assumes responsibility for everyone.
He tries to carry too many minds.
Too many voices.
Too much pain.
Maren's lesson therefore remains essential:
“Don't carry them. Guide them.”
Margarito must learn that compassion does not require destroying himself to save everyone else.
Role in the Star Warriors
Margarito is THE LIVING KEY.
Yuki restores.
Estiben finds the path.
Tokyo flies it.
Kepi plans the mission.
Briar protects the team.
Margarito connects them—to each other, to the dead, to lost consciousnesses and to worlds beyond ordinary reality.
MARGARITO:
“Maybe being the Key was never about opening doors.”YUKI: “Then what is it about?”
Margarito's blue eyes turn brilliant white.
MARGARITO:
“Making sure everyone gets to choose whether they walk through.”
